The halls are buzzing with energy, winter activities are underway, and the excitement of the season is all around us. This is a wonderful time to pause, celebrate how far we’ve come together, and look forward to the joy and learning that still lies ahead.Music is in the air! This week, talented musicians from Frontenac Secondary School will join us for a lively 30‑minute concert. Classes will enjoy performances from the concert band, string ensemble, percussion ensemble, and vocal ensemble. With its mix of instruments and styles, the presentation promises to be both entertaining and educational, while shining a spotlight on the creativity and spirit of the FSS music community.Details are still being finalized related to all the seasonal festivities that will be taking place over the next three weeks, but you can look forward to more information about Spirit Days during the week of December 15-19. In the spirit of giving...and with some friendly competition thrown-in, students will be invited to bring in donations for the food bank and a tally of the contributions by each colour house will be kept. In the end, it will be the Food Bank and the people they support who will be the real winner! Also during the week of December 15-19, we will be gathering in the gym for some holiday songs and several groups of students (classes and clubs) will be preforming. A detailed schedule is below. Currently, we are in need of coaches for the senior boys' (students in Grade 7 and 8) team and the junior girls' (grades 5 and 6) team. There will be staff supervisors who will support with logistics, but we need coaches who know the sport and can coach the teams. Practices can take place either during recess time or after school. The senior basketball season gets rolling in January with the tournament taking place late February/early March. The junior teams will start a little later, with their tournaments taking place at the end of March. Volunteer coaches will require a vulnerable sector check and LDSB volunteer modules completed. A volunteer letter can be provided by the school for the application of the vulnerable sector check.<hr><h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">🚸 A Friendly Reminder About Parking Lot Safety</h2>As we continue to prioritize the safety of all students, staff, and families, we kindly remind drivers to avoid entering the school parking lot during posted drop-off and pick-up times. Whether your child is away due to illness, a family commitment, or participating in a school activity such as a sports tournament, it’s important that their absence is recorded. For students attending school-sponsored events, coaches or supervising teachers will update attendance records so these absences do not count against them. However, we still ask families to report these absences through School Messenger to help us maintain accurate records and confirm each student’s whereabouts. Your cooperation supports a safe and organized school environment.To report an absence, use one the following methods:<h3 class="editor-heading-h3" dir="ltr" style="text-align: start;">School Messenger application</h3><ol class="editor-list-ol"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">Use the email address you provided to the school.</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Use your mobile device to download and install the free SchoolMessenger blue app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store, the <a href="https://go.schoolmessenger.com/#/home" target="_blank" title="SchoolMessenger website" class="editor-link">SchoolMessenger website portal</a>, or from within the LDSB mobile app.</li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem" style="text-align: start;">Tap Sign Up to create your account. For any school day in the school term up to the cut-off time on the day of the absence. Future absences can be reported at any time using any one of these methods. Please do not call the school directly to report your student's absence.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: start;">Reporting late arrivals</h2>Parents/caregivers are instructed to report late arrivals using the new Late Arrival option, including the expected arrival time to school. When a student arrives, they are expected to sign in at office and staff make the amendment in our student information system. When a student leaves early, again they are expected to sign out (with parental permission) and again the amendment is made in our system. This method allows us to best track student attendance to ensure safety. The SafeArrival system makes it easier for you to report your student’s absence, reduces the time it takes for our school staff to verify student attendance, and responds to unexpected or unplanned student absences. This time savings makes it faster and more efficient to account for all students and their safety.<hr><div data-lexical-layout-container="true" style="grid-template-columns: 3fr 1fr; display: grid;"><div class="editor-layoutItem"><h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">Visitors to Welborne Avenue Public School</h2>We welcome visitors to our school. We do ask that all visitors, parents/guardians included, sign in with the main office and remain in the front lobby until directed/escorted by a staff member. All LDSB elementary schools are equipped with a Safe Welcome system which requires all external doors be locked during the school day. All visitors are required to report to the school’s main entrance and request access using an intercom and buzzer system. When it is necessary for a student to leave school during the day, a note is required from a parent or guardian. The note must be given to the homeroom teacher or the office. If parents/guardians of students are coming to pick up/drop off your child, you are asked to wait at the main office. If necessary, office staff will alert your child’s classroom. Additional information and a permission form has been sent home to families of students in grade 7 and 8. To support a calm and focused transition, we kindly encourage parents and guardians to keep drop-offs brief. In these moments, staff may step away to assist other students who are already in the process of transitioning to class. Whether your child is away due to illness, a family commitment, or participating in a school activity such as a sports tournament, it’s important that their absence is recorded. For students attending school-sponsored events, coaches or supervising teachers will update attendance records so these absences do not count against them. However, we still ask families to report these absences through School Messenger to help us maintain accurate records and confirm each student’s whereabouts. Your cooperation supports a safe and organized school environment.To report an absence, use one the following methods:<h3 class="editor-heading-h3" dir="ltr" style="text-align: start;">School Messenger application</h3><ol class="editor-list-ol"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">Use the email address you provided to the school.</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Use your mobile device to download and install the free SchoolMessenger blue app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store, the <a href="https://go.schoolmessenger.com/#/home" target="_blank" title="SchoolMessenger website" class="editor-link">SchoolMessenger website portal</a>, or from within the LDSB mobile app.</li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem" style="text-align: start;">Tap Sign Up to create your account. For any school day in the school term up to the cut-off time on the day of the absence. Future absences can be reported at any time using any one of these methods. Please do not call the school directly to report your student's absence.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: start;">Reporting late arrivals</h2>Parents/caregivers are instructed to report late arrivals using the new Late Arrival option, including the expected arrival time to school. When a student arrives, they are expected to sign in at office and staff make the amendment in our student information system. When a student leaves early, again they are expected to sign out (with parental permission) and again the amendment is made in our system. This method allows us to best track student attendance to ensure safety. The SafeArrival system makes it easier for you to report your student’s absence, reduces the time it takes for our school staff to verify student attendance, and responds to unexpected or unplanned student absences. This time savings makes it faster and more efficient to account for all students and their safety.<hr><div data-lexical-layout-container="true" style="grid-template-columns: 3fr 1fr; display: grid;"><div class="editor-layoutItem"><h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">Visitors to Welborne Avenue Public School</h2>We welcome visitors to our school. We do ask that all visitors, parents/guardians included, sign in with the main office and remain in the front lobby until directed/escorted by a staff member. All LDSB elementary schools are equipped with a Safe Welcome system which requires all external doors be locked during the school day. All visitors are required to report to the school’s main entrance and request access using an intercom and buzzer system. When it is necessary for a student to leave school during the day, a note is required from a parent or guardian. The note must be given to the homeroom teacher or the office. If parents/guardians of students are coming to pick up/drop off your child, you are asked to wait at the main office. If necessary, office staff will alert your child’s classroom. About Our School

Welcome to Welborne Public School, a Kindergarten to Grade 8 school is located in the west end of Kingston. Our school serves the communities of Auden Park, Waterloo Village and Westpark. Welborne has a strong reputation for excellence in academics and sports. A highly involved School Council works with the staff to create a caring community that supports student achievement. Our school hosts a before and after school program by Frontenac County Child Care. As well, several community groups regularly use our facilities in the evenings.

Limestone District School Board Chair and Vice-Chair Elected for 2025-2026

<img src="/images/3b73f535-6db0-57a4-bb4f-a5bb6232f53e" alt="" width="349" height="452" style="width:349px;height:452px;display:inline-block"> <img src="/images/02ea62dd-f2f2-5bdf-8bf4-95704c83d5d1" alt="" width="349" height="452" style="width:349px;height:452px;display:inline-block">Chair Karen McGregor (left) and Vice-Chair Tiffany Lloyd Limestone District School Board (LDSB) Chair Karen McGregor was re-elected to the role, and Trustee Tiffany Lloyd was elected to Vice-Chair at the Annual Meeting of the Board November 19, 2025. Trustees elect a Chair and Vice-Chair each year of their four-year mandate. Chair McGregor, who has been Chair since June 2025, represents LDSB schools in the Townships of Central Frontenac, Addington Highlands, and North Frontenac.  “Trustees play a critical role as a bridge between the communities we serve and the Board, ensuring that families have a direct channel to raise local concerns, seek guidance and influence decisions that affect their children's education,” says Chair McGregor. “I am honoured to be re-elected as Chair for the coming year, to work with a Board of Trustees determined to make a positive difference in the lives of every student in our district.” Vice-Chair Lloyd represents LDSB schools in the Town of Greater Napanee. "I’m honoured to serve as Vice-Chair, and I’m grateful for my colleagues’ confidence,” says Vice-Chair Lloyd. “I look forward to working together as we support our schools, listen to our communities, and make decisions that truly benefit the students and families we serve." Trustees will be selecting the committees they wish to serve on next week at the Nominations Committee Meeting Monday, November 24, 2025.

Choices at 7 Program Information

The Limestone District School Board's Choices at 7 programs offer opportunities for students entering Grade 7 to participate in a variety of unique learning environments. Depending on the availability of places in the programs, students currently in Grade 7 may also apply to join a program for their Grade 8 year.
