Final Newsletter of 2016-17 School Year! Farewell to staff and students who will be leaving Welborne; all our grade 8s, Mrs. Hodge and Ms. Lawn who are retiring, Mrs. Raeburn-Gibson who will be working at Queen’s, staff and students who are moving schools and communities. We wish you all well and trust that you will keep a little piece of Welborne in your hearts. Please continue to follow us on Twitter @Welborne_LDSB.
Welcome Debra Rantz! On Friday, we had the pleasure of hosting Debra Rantz, our Director of Education. This was her first visit to Welborne. She stayed over an hour and visited most classrooms – very impressed with the learning happening on a rainy Friday afternoon. Check out our twitter feed @Welborne_LDSB for details of her visit.
Twitter and e-Newsletter: Sign up for our e-newsletter at http://eepurl.com/by3szH. Follow us on Twitter @Welborne_LDSB. Our twitter feed is live and the newsletters are posted on our website. Check it out at http://welborne.limestone.on.ca/. Welcome aboard to our new JK families! If your children are leaving Welborne, an ‘unsubscribe’ is just a click away!
Staffing News: We welcome Ms. Carrie Tindale, our new Primary Student Support Teacher, who comes to us from Harrowsmith Public School. Ms. Tindale will be replacing Mr. Kay who will be teaching in the REACH program, here at Welborne. We won’t know about our Educational Assistant staffing until after June 30.
Medical Forms: If your child has been prescribed an epipen, or takes other medication administered at school, she/he will be bringing home a letter today about updating medical information. All medication administered at school must be prescribed by a physician and a form filled out.
Welborne Triathletes! Welborne athletes made their presence known at the Kingston Kid's Triathon this weekend. The following students participated for a second time this year.
Marie P. raced the 2002-2003 age group and came 2nd .
Antoinette P. raced the 2004-2005 age group and came 5th (Annie had the fastest swim for that age group). Tessa F. placed second in her age group category. Ryan B. and McKensie M. also
participated in the race.
Lost and Found: Our lost and found is overflowing again! On Wednesday and Thursday this week, we will display unclaimed items in the hall outside the gym. All unclaimed items will be bagged for donation at the end of the week. We’d encourage all families to label all items. A ball-point pen will work, but you may wish to purchase some Mabel’s Labels over the summer. From the home page at http://mabelslabels.com , click on ‘support a fundraiser’ and search for "Welborne Avenue School Council" (the list is alphabetical).
Moving this summer? If your family is moving this summer, please let us know. The answering machine will be checked from time to time over the summer, so please leave a message. Unless we hear from you, we’ll assume that all students are returning. Please encourage new neighbours to call us over the summer with children’s names, ages, and grades, as well as a contact number. This is very helpful information to have as classes are being built right up until the end of the week of August 28. If you move without informing us, that will leave gaps in our classes in September and may necessitate a re-organization.
September Class Placements: Come to the school on Friday, September 1between 4:30 – 5:30 to find out which class your child will be placed in when school resumes on Tuesday, September 6. Please be advised that these class placements will be subject to change - depending on school enrolment. Many thanks for not phoning the school to ask about class placements before this time. We will be working on class lists right up until the last minute. Last year most people showed up right at 4:30 and had to wait. If you come closer to 5:00, there may not be such a line-up.
Driveway/Parking Lot Reminder: Many, many thanks to our families for safely parking on the street and not entering our parking lot between 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. and 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. Our students’ safety depends on keeping our bus lanes clear. This will be especially important to remember on the first day of school!
School Council: Our final School Council meeting took place last Tuesday. Our first meeting in September will take place on Monday, September 18 at 6:15 p.m. The 2017-18 executive will be elected at this meeting so it is important for as many folks as possible to attend. Minutes from the May School Council meeting are posted in the front foyer.
Allergies – Please do not send nuts, peanuts or peanut butter into the school. Asthma – Students are now able to carry and administer (with parent permission) their own asthma medication.
