Your commitment, positivity, and teamwork have made this year truly special—and we couldn’t have done it without you.<hr><h2 class="editor-heading-h2">Important Year-End Dates</h2>🎉 Welborne Fun Day – Date Change To help avoid the rain and (fingers crossed!) enjoy slightly warmer temperatures, Welborne Fun Day has been moved to Tuesday. We’re looking forward to a joyful day of outdoor activities and school spirit.🎓 Grade 8 Graduation Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. in the gymnasium. We are so proud of our graduating students and look forward to celebrating this exciting milestone together.📄 Report Cards Report cards will be sent home on Wednesday, June 24th. Please consider sending an extra shopping bag with your child—by this point in June, lockers and desks seem to mysteriously multiply their contents, and it’s amazing what can come home. If your student is absent on Wednesday, report cards can be picked up from the office starting June 29th, or will be held until the fall. Please note that report cards will not be mailed.📅 Last Day of School The final day for students is Thursday, June 25th.🏫 PA Day Friday, June 26th is a PA Day—students may officially begin their “summer sleep‑in schedule.”<hr><h2 class="editor-heading-h2">Office Hours</h2>The office will be open on:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">June 29th, 30th, July 2nd, and 3rd from 8:15 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">The office reopens on August 25th, and Ms. Hart will return that day.</li></ul><hr><h2 class="editor-heading-h2">Looking Ahead to September</h2>As in previous years, class organization information will be shared before the first day of school. Families will receive class placement details and first‑day procedures on September 1st.We are excited to welcome students back on Wednesday, September 2nd, 2026—refreshed, recharged, and hopefully only slightly taller. A reminder that this first day of school falls before Labour Day, and we can’t wait to see everyone again.<hr><h2 class="editor-heading-h2">Staffing Updates</h2>At this time of year, we always have to say good‑bye to some members of our team. In true Welborne fashion, we don’t really say good‑bye—we say “hope to see you soon.” Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat.While we hope that Ms. Courtney, Ms. Katherine, Ms. Ruby, and Ms. Erin (Dai), will be back in the fall, we do not yet know for sure. We want to express our sincere thanks for their dedication and the tremendous impact they have had on the daily lives of Welborne students.We understand that staff changes can bring mixed emotions, and we want to reassure families that our focus remains on supporting every student. Dear Families,As we move towards the last week of the 2025-2026 school year, I want to share a few important updates and reminders as we wrap up the year and begin looking ahead to September.2026-2027 School Year Budget At last night’s Regular Board Meeting, the Board of Trustees approved the Limestone District School Board’s 2026-2027 budget, prepared in accordance with Public Sector Accounting Board standards. Board of Trustees Approves 2026–2027 School Year Budget

At its regular meeting on June 17, 2026, the Limestone District School Board of Trustees approved a $340.5 million budget for the 2026–2027 school year. This is a deficit budget balanced through the use of reserve funds.The approved budget complies with Ministry of Education requirements and includes:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">Operating expenditures of $316.8 million, representing a $73,000 decrease compared to the previous year.</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Capital expenditures of $23.7 million, allocated to school condition improvements and renewal projects.</li></ul>The vast majority of the operating budget is directed to student instruction and relates directly to classroom support. Year End Letter to Students and Parents

The Honourable Paul Calandra, Minister of Education has shared a letter for students, parents and families: Dear Students, Parents and Families,To our amazing students: well done on finishing another school year! This is a good time to celebrate everything you have accomplished over the past several months. You worked hard, took on challenges, learned new things and continued to grow. You should be proud of all you have achieved this year.As you begin your summer break, take time to rest, explore your interests, and enjoy time with family and friends. However you choose to spend your summer, I hope you make the most of the months ahead.To the graduating Class of 2026, congratulations on reaching this important milestone. Graduation marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. Whether your next step is college, university, an apprenticeship, the workforce or another pathway, I wish you every success in the years ahead.As families look ahead to September and the start of a new school year, there are a few things to keep in mind. Ontario schools will continue to focus on helping students build strong foundations in reading, writing and math while preparing them for success beyond the classroom. Students in elementary schools will learn from the same core materials and benefit from a revised Kindergarten curriculum focused on foundational literacy, math and science skills. In Grade 7 and 8, updated History courses will include new mandatory content on the history of Black Canadians.In high schools, students in Grade 10 History will have new learning about Black history, the Holocaust and Holodomor. Students will also be required to demonstrate financial literacy as part of earning their high school diploma. To help provide clearer expectations and a more comprehensive picture of student achievement, high school students will complete written final exams during a dedicated exam period, and attendance and classroom participation will form part of their final grade. The Limestone District School Board is seeking community members with strong financial expertise and business acumen to serve as external members of its Audit Committee for a three‑year term beginning September 2026.The Audit Committee consists of three Trustees and two independent community members. Its mandate is to assist the Board of Trustees in fulfilling its governance and oversight responsibilities. Whether your child is away due to illness, a family commitment, or participating in a school activity such as a sports tournament, it’s important that their absence is recorded. For students attending school-sponsored events, coaches or supervising teachers will update attendance records so these absences do not count against them. However, we still ask families to report these absences through School Messenger to help us maintain accurate records and confirm each student’s whereabouts. For any school day in the school term up to the cut-off time on the day of the absence. Future absences can be reported at any time using any one of these methods. Please do not call the school directly to report your student's absence.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: start;">Reporting late arrivals</h2>Parents/caregivers are instructed to report late arrivals using the new Late Arrival option, including the expected arrival time to school. When a student arrives, they are expected to sign in at office and staff make the amendment in our student information system. When a student leaves early, again they are expected to sign out (with parental permission) and again the amendment is made in our system. This method allows us to best track student attendance to ensure safety. The SafeArrival system makes it easier for you to report your student’s absence, reduces the time it takes for our school staff to verify student attendance, and responds to unexpected or unplanned student absences. This time savings makes it faster and more efficient to account for all students and their safety.<hr><h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Grade 7 and Grade 8 Lunch Privileges</h2>Historically, the students in grades 7 and 8 have the opportunity to get parent permission to leave the school property during recess/eating break on designated days. Until this goal is achieved, we will fly the Progress Pride flag under the Canadian flag at sites with only one flagpole.Displaying the Progress Pride Flag is a way for LDSB to show support for the 2SLGBTQ+ community. This recognition does not diminish our respect for Canada’s national flag; rather, it reflects our commitment to ensuring that all students, staff, and families feel welcomed, valued, and respected in Limestone schools.Flying the Progress Pride Flag is one example of how LDSB demonstrates its inclusive culture. Whether your child is away due to illness, a family commitment, or participating in a school activity such as a sports tournament, it’s important that their absence is recorded. For students attending school-sponsored events, coaches or supervising teachers will update attendance records so these absences do not count against them. However, we still ask families to report these absences through School Messenger to help us maintain accurate records and confirm each student’s whereabouts. Please do not call the school directly to report your student's absence.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: start;">Reporting late arrivals</h2>Parents/caregivers are instructed to report late arrivals using the new Late Arrival option, including the expected arrival time to school. When a student arrives, they are expected to sign in at office and staff make the amendment in our student information system. When a student leaves early, again they are expected to sign out (with parental permission) and again the amendment is made in our system. This method allows us to best track student attendance to ensure safety. The SafeArrival system makes it easier for you to report your student’s absence, reduces the time it takes for our school staff to verify student attendance, and responds to unexpected or unplanned student absences. This time savings makes it faster and more efficient to account for all students and their safety.<hr><h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Grade 7 and Grade 8 Lunch Privileges</h2>Historically, the students in grades 7 and 8 have the opportunity to get parent permission to leave the school property during recess/eating break on designated days. <h2 class="editor-heading-h2">Technical Advisory Group (TAG) is Seeking Expression of Interest</h2>The Limestone District School Board is seeking expressions of interest from <a href="about:blank" class="editor-link">individuals</a><a href="#_msocom_1" class="editor-link">[EL1]</a>  interested in joining the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) in support of the ongoing Student Census 2025 project.The purpose of the Technical Advisory Group is to provide advice, perspectives, and recommendations related to the design of data collection methods, analysis, and the representation of results for LDSB’s Student Census.
