The halls are buzzing with energy, winter activities are underway, and the excitement of the season is all around us. This is a wonderful time to pause, celebrate how far we’ve come together, and look forward to the joy and learning that still lies ahead.Music is in the air! This week, talented musicians from Frontenac Secondary School will join us for a lively 30‑minute concert. Classes will enjoy performances from the concert band, string ensemble, percussion ensemble, and vocal ensemble. With its mix of instruments and styles, the presentation promises to be both entertaining and educational, while shining a spotlight on the creativity and spirit of the FSS music community.Details are still being finalized related to all the seasonal festivities that will be taking place over the next three weeks, but you can look forward to more information about Spirit Days during the week of December 15-19. In the spirit of giving...and with some friendly competition thrown-in, students will be invited to bring in donations for the food bank and a tally of the contributions by each colour house will be kept. In the end, it will be the Food Bank and the people they support who will be the real winner! Also during the week of December 15-19, we will be gathering in the gym for some holiday songs and several groups of students (classes and clubs) will be preforming. A detailed schedule is below. Currently, we are in need of coaches for the senior boys' (students in Grade 7 and 8) team and the junior girls' (grades 5 and 6) team. There will be staff supervisors who will support with logistics, but we need coaches who know the sport and can coach the teams. Practices can take place either during recess time or after school. The senior basketball season gets rolling in January with the tournament taking place late February/early March. The junior teams will start a little later, with their tournaments taking place at the end of March. Volunteer coaches will require a vulnerable sector check and LDSB volunteer modules completed. A volunteer letter can be provided by the school for the application of the vulnerable sector check.<hr><h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">🚸 A Friendly Reminder About Parking Lot Safety</h2>As we continue to prioritize the safety of all students, staff, and families, we kindly remind drivers to avoid entering the school parking lot during posted drop-off and pick-up times. This area becomes especially busy with pedestrian traffic, and vehicle entry during these windows poses serious safety risks. To support a calm and focused transition, we kindly encourage parents and guardians to keep drop-offs brief. A quick goodbye helps us guide students directly to their classrooms and maintain a consistent start to the day.If you remain in the front lobby with your child, we assume you are actively engaged with them. In these moments, staff may step away to assist other students who are already in the process of transitioning to class. Whether your child is away due to illness, a family commitment, or participating in a school activity such as a sports tournament, it’s important that their absence is recorded. For students attending school-sponsored events, coaches or supervising teachers will update attendance records so these absences do not count against them. However, we still ask families to report these absences through School Messenger to help us maintain accurate records and confirm each student’s whereabouts. Your cooperation supports a safe and organized school environment.To report an absence, use one the following methods:<h3 class="editor-heading-h3" dir="ltr" style="text-align: start;">School Messenger application</h3><ol class="editor-list-ol"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">Use the email address you provided to the school.</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Use your mobile device to download and install the free SchoolMessenger blue app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store, the <a href="https://go.schoolmessenger.com/#/home" target="_blank" title="SchoolMessenger website" class="editor-link">SchoolMessenger website portal</a>, or from within the LDSB mobile app.</li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem" style="text-align: start;">Tap Sign Up to create your account. Please ensure you use the same email address your student’s school has on file. If you do not use that same email address, you will not be able to create an account, or may not be able to see the "Attendance" option. You may have already created an account when we introduced the Communicate broadcast system.</li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem" style="text-align: start;">Select Attendance from the menu, then select Report an Absence and follow the prompts.</li></ol><h3 class="editor-heading-h3" dir="ltr" style="text-align: start;">Interactive toll-free telephone</h3><ol class="editor-list-ol"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem" style="text-align: start;">Call 1-855-257-9349 toll-free to report an absence using the automated phone system.</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem" style="text-align: start;">Follow the instructions to report an absence.</li></ol>These options are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For any school day in the school term up to the cut-off time on the day of the absence. Future absences can be reported at any time using any one of these methods. Please do not call the school directly to report your student's absence.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: start;">Reporting late arrivals</h2>Parents/caregivers are instructed to report late arrivals using the new Late Arrival option, including the expected arrival time to school. When a student arrives, they are expected to sign in at office and staff make the amendment in our student information system. When a student leaves early, again they are expected to sign out (with parental permission) and again the amendment is made in our system. This method allows us to best track student attendance to ensure safety. The SafeArrival system makes it easier for you to report your student’s absence, reduces the time it takes for our school staff to verify student attendance, and responds to unexpected or unplanned student absences. This time savings makes it faster and more efficient to account for all students and their safety.<hr><div data-lexical-layout-container="true" style="grid-template-columns: 3fr 1fr; display: grid;"><div class="editor-layoutItem"><h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">Visitors to Welborne Avenue Public School</h2>We welcome visitors to our school. We do ask that all visitors, parents/guardians included, sign in with the main office and remain in the front lobby until directed/escorted by a staff member. All LDSB elementary schools are equipped with a Safe Welcome system which requires all external doors be locked during the school day. All visitors are required to report to the school’s main entrance and request access using an intercom and buzzer system. When it is necessary for a student to leave school during the day, a note is required from a parent or guardian. The note must be given to the homeroom teacher or the office. If parents/guardians of students are coming to pick up/drop off your child, you are asked to wait at the main office. If necessary, office staff will alert your child’s classroom. Additional information and a permission form has been sent home to families of students in grade 7 and 8. We acknowledge their enduring presence on this land, as well as the presence of Métis, Inuit, and other First Nations from across Turtle Island. We honour their cultures and celebrate their commitment to this land."<h3 class="editor-heading-h3" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Call to Order</h3>Director of Education Krishna Burra: "In accordance with Section 208 of The Education Act, and LDSB By-Laws Article II and IV, and under the authority invested in me as the Secretary of the Board, I welcome everyone to the Annual Meeting of the Limestone District School Board for the term ending November 19, 2026. This evening Trustees will elect a Chair and a Vice-Chair to serve as Executive for the next year. The Trustee Code of Conduct states, 'Trustees shall declare any conflict of interest or involvement, financial or otherwise, between their personal life and/or business interests and their position on the Board.' In support of this, Trustees annually declare their ongoing involvement with agencies, boards, and committees in organizations outside of the Limestone District School Board and declare verbally at the Annual Meeting of the Board for inclusion in the minutes."<h3 class="editor-heading-h3" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Election of the Chair</h3>Karen McGregor was re-elected as Chair. For students attending school-sponsored events, coaches or supervising teachers will update attendance records so these absences do not count against them. However, we still ask families to report these absences through School Messenger to help us maintain accurate records and confirm each student’s whereabouts. This method allows us to best track student attendance to ensure safety. Limestone District School Board Chair and Vice-Chair Elected for 2025-2026

Choices at 7 Program Information

The Limestone District School Board's Choices at 7 programs offer opportunities for students entering Grade 7 to participate in a variety of unique learning environments. Depending on the availability of places in the programs, students currently in Grade 7 may also apply to join a program for their Grade 8 year. The playgrounds and fields were dusted in white last week, adding a little winter magic to our busy days. As we bundle up and head toward the final stretch before a break, our school community continues to shine with energy, kindness, and teamwork. From classroom projects and sports events to seasonal celebrations, there’s so much to be proud of—and even more to look forward to.This week marks Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week in the province of Ontario. We work to put an end to bullying every day. This week, classes will spend a bit more time learning explicitly about bullying and the important role they play in putting an end to it. Friday is "Pink Shirt Day". Students and staff are invited to wear something pink to show their support for putting an end to bullying. Whether your child is away due to illness, a family commitment, or participating in a school activity such as a sports tournament, it’s important that their absence is recorded. For students attending school-sponsored events, coaches or supervising teachers will update attendance records so these absences do not count against them. However, we still ask families to report these absences through School Messenger to help us maintain accurate records and confirm each student’s whereabouts. Please do not call the school directly to report your student's absence.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: start;">Reporting late arrivals</h2>Parents/caregivers are instructed to report late arrivals using the new Late Arrival option, including the expected arrival time to school. When a student arrives, they are expected to sign in at office and staff make the amendment in our student information system. When a student leaves early, again they are expected to sign out (with parental permission) and again the amendment is made in our system. This method allows us to best track student attendance to ensure safety. The SafeArrival system makes it easier for you to report your student’s absence, reduces the time it takes for our school staff to verify student attendance, and responds to unexpected or unplanned student absences. This time savings makes it faster and more efficient to account for all students and their safety.<hr><div data-lexical-layout-container="true" style="grid-template-columns: 3fr 1fr; display: grid;"><div class="editor-layoutItem"><h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">Visitors to Welborne Avenue Public School</h2>We welcome visitors to our school. We do ask that all visitors, parents/guardians included, sign in with the main office and remain in the front lobby until directed/escorted by a staff member. All LDSB elementary schools are equipped with a Safe Welcome system which requires all external doors be locked during the school day. All visitors are required to report to the school’s main entrance and request access using an intercom and buzzer system. When it is necessary for a student to leave school during the day, a note is required from a parent or guardian. The note must be given to the homeroom teacher or the office. If parents/guardians of students are coming to pick up/drop off your child, you are asked to wait at the main office. If necessary, office staff will alert your child’s classroom. If you wish to opt your student(s) out, please contact your school principal. Whether your child is away due to illness, a family commitment, or participating in a school activity such as a sports tournament, it’s important that their absence is recorded. For students attending school-sponsored events, coaches or supervising teachers will update attendance records so these absences do not count against them. However, we still ask families to report these absences through School Messenger to help us maintain accurate records and confirm each student’s whereabouts. When a student leaves early, again they are expected to sign out (with parental permission) and again the amendment is made in our system. This method allows us to best track student attendance to ensure safety. The SafeArrival system makes it easier for you to report your student’s absence, reduces the time it takes for our school staff to verify student attendance, and responds to unexpected or unplanned student absences. This time savings makes it faster and more efficient to account for all students and their safety.<hr><div data-lexical-layout-container="true" style="grid-template-columns: 3fr 1fr; display: grid;"><div class="editor-layoutItem"><h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">Visitors to Welborne Avenue Public School</h2>We welcome visitors to our school. We do ask that all visitors, parents/guardians included, sign in with the main office and remain in the front lobby until directed/escorted by a staff member. All LDSB elementary schools are equipped with a Safe Welcome system which requires all external doors be locked during the school day. All visitors are required to report to the school’s main entrance and request access using an intercom and buzzer system. When it is necessary for a student to leave school during the day, a note is required from a parent or guardian. The note must be given to the homeroom teacher or the office. If parents/guardians of students are coming to pick up/drop off your child, you are asked to wait at the main office. If necessary, office staff will alert your child’s classroom. Reminder - Student Census Survey

Dear Families,A reminder to families that the See Yourself in Limestone Student Census is coming up the week of November 24 to 28.The Student Census is a voluntary survey for students in Grades 4 to 12. It gathers information about students’ identities and their experiences at school. A Message from Southeast Public Health

Dear Families,We are sharing the following letter from Southeast Public Health, which contains important information for families:<hr>Dear parents, guardians and staff:RE: First Influenza A Confirmed Case of the SeasonPlease be advised that Southeast Public Health (SEPH) has received laboratory confirmation of the first case of influenza A for the 2025-2026 season. We are providing this information so that you will be able to take steps to ensure the best protection possible for yourself and your family.Influenza causes mild to severe illness and can lead to serious health complications, even in healthy children and adults. Immunization is the best way to prevent influenza; even in years when there is a strain mismatch, the flu vaccine will still offer some protection. The influenza vaccine (flu shot) is available free of charge to anyone who lives, works or goes to school in Ontario who is 6 months of age and over. Contact your health-care provider or local pharmacy for your influenza vaccine if your family has not yet been immunized. For children under 5 years of age who cannot receive their immunization from their health-care provider, <a href="https://southeastph.ca/health-topics/respiratory-season-vaccines/" class="editor-link">Southeast Public Health is offering clinics</a>.Next to immunization, the single most important way to prevent the spread of infection is to clean hands often with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizers. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers should only be used for children if they are assisted and should be stored out of reach of young children.The symptoms of influenza include:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">fever (greater than 38.0°C/100.4 °F)</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">dry cough</li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem">chills</li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem">headache</li><li value="5" class="editor-listitem">muscle aches</li><li value="6" class="editor-listitem">loss of appetite</li><li value="7" class="editor-listitem">sore throat</li><li value="8" class="editor-listitem">runny nose</li></ul> Young children may also experience nausea and vomiting with the above symptoms.If your child is feeling unwell, please keep them home until they are fever-free and their symptoms have improved for at least 24 hours (or 48 hours if they’ve had vomiting or diarrhea). When your child returns to school, we encourage them to wear a well-fitting mask for 10 days from when their symptoms started to help keep others healthy. Limestone and KCHC Launch Student Support Program Backed by Community Foundation Grant
